Average
Average is a data reduction method that replaces multiple values within each time interval with their arithmetic mean. This provides a smoothed curve and helps reduce noise in large datasets.
How It Works:
- The time axis is split into intervals based on
Max Points - All values in an interval are averaged
- Only the resulting average is displayed for each segment
???? Industrial Use Case
Scenario: Monitoring ambient temperature trends in a production hall
Ambient temperature is measured every second, but for overview purposes, operators are only interested in general trends—fluctuations of ±0.1°C are irrelevant.
Problem:
- Raw data is too detailed and noisy
- Makes it difficult to spot long-term drift or HVAC failures
Solution:
With Average enabled:
- Minor fluctuations are smoothed out
- Operators can clearly see if the overall temperature is stable, rising, or falling
- Ideal for exporting or reporting trends over hours/days
