Average

Average is a data reduction method that replaces multiple values within each time interval with their arithmetic mean. This provides a smoothed curve and helps reduce noise in large datasets.

How It Works:

  • The time axis is split into intervals based on Max Points
  • All values in an interval are averaged
  • Only the resulting average is displayed for each segment

???? Industrial Use Case

Ambient temperature is measured every second, but for overview purposes, operators are only interested in general trends—fluctuations of ±0.1°C are irrelevant.

Problem:

  • Raw data is too detailed and noisy
  • Makes it difficult to spot long-term drift or HVAC failures

Solution:
With Average enabled:

  • Minor fluctuations are smoothed out
  • Operators can clearly see if the overall temperature is stable, rising, or falling
  • Ideal for exporting or reporting trends over hours/days
