Calendar Types Overview

The Calendar Types module lets you define the categories used to organize the entries in your calendar. A type acts as a label that segments calendar items into meaningful groups — for example by purpose, department, or priority — so the calendar stays structured and easy to read.

Every type carries a color. That color is applied to all calendar items assigned to the type, which means you can visually recognize each category directly in the calendar view without opening individual entries. Items of the same type share the same color, making patterns and groupings immediately obvious.

What a Type Defines

  • Name — the human-readable label shown when assigning a type to a calendar item.
  • Color — the color used to render every item of this type in the calendar view. Each type must use a unique color so categories remain visually distinct.
  • System flag — indicates whether the type is built into the application (see below).

User Types

  • Created and managed by you from this view.
  • Can be added, edited, and deleted at any time.
  • Free to assign any name and any color that is not already reserved by another type.
  • Ideal for adapting the calendar to your own workflow and organizational needs.

System Types

Types marked as System in the table are built into the application and are required for its internal behavior. To keep the calendar consistent and reliable, system types are protected:

  • They cannot be edited.
  • They cannot be deleted.
  • Their reserved color cannot be reused by any other type — the color stays exclusively bound to the system type so it always stays recognizable in the calendar view.

You can identify a system type by the System column in the list. Rows marked as system do not offer edit or delete actions, while user-defined types do.

Tips

  • Choose clearly distinguishable colors for your types so different categories are easy to tell apart at a glance.
  • Use the filter at the top of the list to quickly find a specific type by name.
  • Avoid colors that are too similar to existing (especially system) types to keep the calendar view readable.
